How to Request a Copy of Your Fraudulent Tax Return
Overview
If you are the victim of identity theft, you may need a copy of any fraudulent returns filed under your name. We can provide you with a copy.
We will redact information on the return to protect you and additional possible victims, but there will still be enough data for you to determine how your information was used.
Only you or your authorized representative may request the redacted return.
Steps to Request Your Copy
- Complete the Request for Copies of Tax Information (Form RTI).
- Mark the "Other" and write "Copy of Fraudulent Return" and the tax year as the type of information you are requesting.
- Mail or fax the Form RTI and supporting documentation using the address or fax number provided on the form.
