This position resides in the Digitization Unit of the Department of Revenue. Duties include coordinating the ongoing program activities of processing incoming correspondence, payments, returns and data. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining data, tracking data and system performance, ensuring secure handling and processing of taxpayer information. The incumbent provides consultation, technical assistance, training, and outreach to internal and external users to promote effective system operations. This includes overseeing system research, enhancement, validation, readiness, and reporting projects. The position resides in the Information Management Bureau which comprised of three units, Customer & Payment Management, Digitization, and Information Governance. The position reports to the Unit Manager. This position does not supervise other staff.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2025, and July 1, 2026.

This position resides in the Business & Income Taxes Division of the Department of Revenue. BIT’s tax specialists perform a variety of duties assigned by management. Job Overview:
This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of the Department of Revenue. Duties include appraisal reviews for residential, agricultural, forestland and commercial properties. Conduct property reviews, discoveries, data research, field appraisals, and inspections to determine final valuation of properties. Analyze, assess, and classify land uses for all property types. Assist with specification, calibration, and benchmarking of models, sales comparisons, and property characteristics. Support ongoing program operations and activities. Respond to taxpayer inquiries and explain appraisal activities. Provide dispute resolution and participate in appeal hearings. The position does not supervise other staff.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct property searches and discoveries to identify appraisal needs and priorities.
- Review tax records, land use, improvements, valuation documents, and other information.
- Identify properties for appraisal review.
- Research and analyze property characteristics such as site and improvement data, sanitation regulations, zoning, planning, irrigation rights, covenants, deed restrictions, depreciation schedules, capitalization rates, construction costs, and related considerations to estimate the impact on property values.
- Conduct field appraisals, site inspections, and sales comparison to identify valuation factors.
- Collect data required for maps, plats, and sketches used in appraisals.
- Document professional assumptions and limiting conditions.
- Determine appropriate appraisal methods (sales comparison, abstraction, capitalization, etc.) for residential, agricultural, forestland, and commercial properties.
- Verify information in title and ownership data, inspection reports, market models, and other sources to determine final values.
- Classify properties according to primary use for all property types.
Working Conditions:
- Work hours may exceed 40 hours from time to time, including weekends.
- Office environment.
- Working outside.
- Lifting is infrequent, less than 15 pounds.
- Travel is required, must have a valid driver’s license.

- Construction, mapping, GIS, cadastral, agriculture, forestry, and surveying
- Property sales and valuations procedures

- Requires Montana certification in residential property appraisal (IAAO 101), agricultural/forestland (AG Certification), commercial property appraisal (IAAO 102), and USPAP per ARM 42.18.206-208 and MCA Title 15; within the first year of employment.

Job Overview:
This position resides in the Property Assessment Division of the Department of Revenue. The Property Valuation Specialist (PVS) coordinates and performs a range of specialized property appraisal and assessment support services to facilitate data research, verification, computation, and processing procedures; provides general office and program support services; researches and compiles general program information; ensures consistent messaging on policies, procedures, and statutes; and coordinates with other program staff and managers as necessary to respond to unusual or specialized requests. The PVS provides customer service, including property owners visiting the PAD office, phone calls or other electronic communications. The PVS provides open communications and direct support to local government staff. The position reports to an area manager and does not directly supervise other staff.
